How to end piracy in Somalia waters

Related to country: Somalia
About this category: Peace & Conflict

Somalia is facing two major problems. Terrorism in the land and piracy in the sea.

Apparently, inland terrorism is not catching international community’s eyes and no serious action is taken for stabilizing a local active and influential government.

The international community is consuming money and resource to control the piracy in waters mainly due to economical aspects of piracy and as claimed for safety of waterways and sailors. Even governments in odds such as the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran are helping each other’s commercial ships.

Nevertheless, no one is sure if this kind of treatment is ever going to be hopeful to ending the piracy. In my correspondence with Somalia youth, I see them pessimistic about the intentions of the international community. It even seems that some ships pretend they have been taken or about being taken by pirates and they had to jettison some goods in order to get rid of pirates and have asked the insurance companies for coverage. This may lead to some kind of distrust and ambiguity.

It seems the international community shall look for new solutions. Solutions that could be sustainable.  Solutions lie inside Somalia where people shall be able to have a reliable and powerful government so that they achieve security inside of the large Somalia.

International community may do some efforts to build ports of various operations starting fishing ports and other facilities and utilities compatible with Somalia’s potentials.

International community’s navies may only do a temporary work towards controlling piracy to some limited extent but the needs of Somalia and the rest of the world depends on a stable and wealthier Somalia. Poor people may always be harmed and harm due to poverty. International community shall end the poverty in Somalia.

BASIS SOFT EXPO 2012 UPDATE-2:INNOVATORS NEED CARE AND GUIDANCE

About this category: Technology

I visited the BASIS SOFT EXPO 2012 for the second time yesterday evening. The expo was as lively as before. But,a sense of sadness appeared to be prevailing there. This was because of the reality of winding up of the fair which became part of the lifestyle of so many people who participated from home and abroad. They dedicated their full talent in the making of the expo. They aspired to gain their goals. Some of them wanted to come into lime light. The established ones wanted to make good business for the duration of fair and beyond.I think all active participants achieved some of their objectives and sowed seeds of hope for the future.
During the expo I perceived through my actual and virtual visits that such fair is very important for the development of IT sector in Bangladesh. But,this fair should not be the market of foreign technology, device or business initiatives.
The exposition of innovations and sustainable development of the innovations through care and guidance of the innovators should be the major focus of such fair.I felt that caring and guidance of the innovators could be enhanced for inspiring them to take more challenges.
I observed the devices and innovations made by the local innovators and displayed in the expo with interest. The innovations needed more development in order to face the international standard. If the innovators are given more training and guidance they can pursue more options for developing their innovations.I refer to technical as well as logistic support to the innovators.May I ask if any system of holistic guidance is in place now?I am afraid, the answer is still negative.I am very confident that Bangladesh has many talented peoples. The need proper care and guidance. If they are taken care of properly the nation may enjoy miracles in the development of IT sector.

Happy International Mother Language Day!

About this category: Culture

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 (30C/62).

On 16 May 2009 the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution A/RES/61/266 called upon Member States “to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world”. By the same resolution, the General Assembly proclaimed 2008 as the International Year of Languages, to promote unity in diversity and international understanding, through multilingualism and multiculturalism.

International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The date represents the day in 1952 when students demonstrating for recognition of their language, Bangla, as one of the two national languages of the then Pakistan, were shot and killed by police in Dhaka, the capital of what is now Bangladesh.

Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.

Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO issued the following message for International Mother Language Day 2012

“The language of our thoughts and our emotions is our most valuable asset. Multilingualism is our ally in ensuring quality education for all, in promoting inclusion and in combating discrimination. ”

- Bank of Scotland și Royal Bank of Scotland sunt ”același lucru”

Related to country: United Kingdom
About this category: Health
